This international conference addresses the active role of Shakespeare’s theatre in the development of empathy and emotional intelligence, as well as a sense of community in the audiences, in view of the promotion of individual and societal change. Starting from hypotheses on the mechanisms through which the dramatic text, as a special form of intermedial writing, prompts an emotional and bodily response, the conference focuses on the emotionally charged language of Shakespeare’s works and its impact on the receivers through different media. More specifically, it explores how Shakespeare’s theatre can increase self-awareness and improve interpersonal and intercultural relationships, thus favouring the emergence of an inclusive social attitude and of a participatory culture aimed at bridging individuals and communities.
As part of this conference, a research seminar on “Il P.C.T.O. come laboratorio di ricerca applicata: ’Le potenzialità del teatro shakespeariano’ dal progetto pilota al PRIN 2022” (10 April) features a roundtable with all the members of the Roma Tre Unit of the “Applied Shakespeare” PRIN project and collaborators: Maddalena Pennacchia (P.I.), Michela Compagnoni, Maristella Croppo, Ilaria Diotallevi, Lucia Esposito, Valeria Ferrà, Enrico Grazzi, Antonia Lonigro, Susanna Pallini, Laura Palmerio, Amalia Rizzo, Edoardo Saija, Loredana Scaramella, Giovanni Maria Vecchio.
