Queen Titania Reimagined in a World of Crisis
Reimagine Queen Titania’s monologue from A Midsummer Night's Dream (2.1.81–117) in the context of today’s climate change emergency and the realities of war. Let your imagination reshape Titania’s character, language and the world she inhabits.
You may:
- Turn Titania into a contemporary eco-warrior, a spirit of resistance, a grieving goddess or a displaced queen.
- Reimagine the setting (from enchanted forests scorched by fire to melting ice caps, Milan on the morning after a violent storm, bombed cities or refugee camps).
- Craft an emotional soundscape: what would her voice sound like in this fractured world? What echoes, silences or cries accompany her words? These sounds can be human and non-human sounds.
Submission requirements:
- Submit your monologue, complete with stage directions as a guide to performance.
- Together with your written script, include an audio or video recording of the speech.
- The written script must be no longer than 1500 words.
Let Titania speak for a wounded Earth and a world in turmoil.
Deadline: 30 October 2025
